The Minister of Justice, Signs the Singapore Convention on Mediation in Disputes arising from International Trade

His Excellency, Dr. Abdul Basir Anwar, Minister of Justice of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, traveled to Singapore on the invitation of Mr. K. Shanmugam, Minster of Law and Internal Affairs of Singapore to sign the Singapore Convention and participate in inter-ministerial roundtable on trust building. He signed the Singapore Convention on Mediation in Disputes arising from International Trade on August 07 2019, in Singapore.
The Minister of Justice, as the competent representative of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan signed this convention to facilitate ease for national and international traders. In this conference, representatives of various countries and international organizations had participated. Amongst them, 46 countries signed this convention.

Also, the Minister of Justice participated in the panel discussions, organized regarding multilateralism and the importance of international rule of law. Meanwhile, he participated in inter-ministerial roundtable under the title of trust building to enable the international trade, and delivered his speech on trust building, multilateralism and the rule of law, strengthening legal underpinnings of international trade and the significance of the Singapore Convention in light of the prevailing laws of Afghanistan. He shared the arrangements made and actions taken by the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan with the participants.
In this journey, the Minister of Justice called on Mr. Desmond Lee, Minister of Social and Family Development Affairs of Singapore and discussed on mutual relations and cooperation, in particular about the electronic governance and mediation. The Minister of Justice requested Mr. Desmond Lee to provide appropriate assistance to the Directorate of State Cases of the Ministry of Justice of Afghanistan by means of training programs on mediation and other necessary equipment, in particular, in the field of electronic governance.
Mr. Desmond Lee, in turn, requested the Minister of Justice of Afghanistan, as a gesture of mutual cooperation between the two countries, Afghanistan support the candidature of Singapore in the International Civil Aviation Organization, and the government of Singapore will support the candidature of Afghanistan for the Committee of Eradication of all Types of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).
The Minister of Justice, visited the National Gallery of Singapore and the historical palace of Forte Kanings. He also took part in the Maxwell grand opening, the biggest center of world mediation, and in the fifty fourth anniversary of independence of Singapore.
The Minister of Justice performed the Juma Prayer at the historical mosque ‘Sultan’, built in 1824. He spoke on the Islamic culture, brotherhood and cordial relations amongst the Muslims of the two countries. He was warmly received by the board of directors of the mosque and other officials. He was presented with a book on the history of the mosque by the board of directors of the mosque.
