Kabul- Afghanistan
The Ministry of justice denies the news and statements as if expressed by the Ministry of Justice on the number of prisoners in the country and also the number of prisoners quoted that are serving their imprisonments without trial in the prisons of the country. The Ministry of justice calls these statements to be personal and irrelevant to this institution.
A number of media, last day in a national conference on professional advocacy and coordination with the justice institutions in Afghanistan, quoting from the Ministry of justice, has cited that “currently there are 32,000 prisoners in the country’s prison centers, and about 10,000 of the said prisoners, are imprisoned without trial”.
It is noteworthy, that the responsibility of Afghanistan’s prisons has been transferred from Ministry of Justice to the Ministry of the Interior in 2013.
Ministry of justice is responsible for providing legal aid to the indigent suspects and accused individuals. The Ministry of Justice is not responsible for providing accurate statistics and figures on the number of prisoners in the country and the number of the accused that have not been tried so far. For this, the Ministry rejects the news released on the number of inmates and prisoners who appear to be in prisons without trial and considers it the personal opinion of speaker.
It should be noted that for the time being, the exact information, precise statistics and related issues about the prisons of the country, is related to the Ministry of interior.
