Human Rights Coordination Committee: Law on the Protection of Human Rights is to be drafted

Qazawatpooh Fazil Ahmad Manawi minister of justice, and the director of the Committee for Cohesion and Coordination of Human Rights at the meeting of the Committee for Cohesion and Coordination of Human Rights, both emphasized that the “Regulation on Human Rights Protection” is to be transformed into the “Law on Human Rights Protection”.

The meeting of Cohesion and Coordination of Human Rights Committee, was convened this Sunday morning in the Ministry of Justice. The meeting was held by the chairmanship of H. E. Qazawatpooh Fazil Ahmad Manawi Minister of Justice and director of the Committee for Cohesion and Coordination of Human Rights and by the participation of deputies of member departments, in order to approve the National Action Plan Recommendation for periodic and Global Human Rights Review (UPR) and to send it to the departments to be implemented and receive solutions for the implementation of third round recommendations of Monitoring Committee of the International Convention on the Elimination of all forms  of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).

The Department of Human Rights Protection of the Ministry of Justice said at the meeting that 235 recommendations from the periodic and global review of human rights have been accepted by the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and an action plan has also been developed to implement them.

Mr. Manawi emphasized that the implementation of these recommendation has been submitted to the departments to be done. It   is supposed that the report of these recommendation be presented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country to the UN Human Rights Council by next year.

He also spoke about the recommendations of the third round supervisory committee of the International Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), and likewise he said that the action plan has been prepared to implement the 64 recommendation of this committee and needs to be discussed at the technical level.

 Minister of Justice at this meeting, also said that the “Regulation on the Protection of Human Rights in Government Offices" needs to be altered into “Human Rights  Protection  Law” and the “Protector of the Human Rights” is to be clearly defined in it as well.

At meeting today, the Terms of Duties of Committee for Cohesion and Coordination of Human Rights was also confirmed in principle and is supposed to be approved by the end of this week after an overall review.

Mr. Manawi said at the meeting that, Deputies of National Security Council and the Ministry of State in Peace Affairs shall be also included as members of Committee for Cohesion and Coordination of Human Rights.
