Deputy Ministers of Justice Ministry spoke online with representatives of a number of embassies and international organizations about strengthening cooperation and continuing their support for the Afghan judiciary.

Welcoming the previous cooperation of these organizations, H.E. Gol Mohammad Golzai, “Admin and Finance Deputy Minister of the Justice Ministry, at the online meeting held on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at the initiative of UNAMA” said that, the Ministry is trying to make the legislative process further enhanced and accountable by implementing the reform plan. Build the needs and expand the activities of law offices in the districts to provide people with access to justice.

He also said that, according to the constitution, the government, especially the Ministry of Justice, is responsible to defend the rights suspects and accused persons in the courts; But the provision of legal aid services in remote areas still needs further strengthening, which requires the cooperation of NGOs.

Mr. Golzay mentioned the digitalization of all administrative systems of the Ministry of Justice, support for projects explaining laws and obtaining opinions in laws, modernization of the Institute of Legislative Affairs, financial and technical support for legislative and legal internships and support for non-judicial justice are the most important needs of the ministry and asked donors for support in this regard.

Meanwhile, H.E. Abdul Majid “Ghanizadeh”, “Technical Deputy Minister” of Justice Ministry, in the meeting said that, specific plans have been prepared for some cases, including the digitalization of systems, and need support. He added that, the digitization of systems, in addition to facilitating services, also helps prevent corruption and abuse.

Mr. Mohammad Ashraf “Rasouli”, senior adviser to the Ministry of Justice, also attended the meeting and emphasized on the need for non-judicial justice. This is not a denial of formal justice, he said, and that cases in remote areas need to be regulated through councils and jirgas.

At this meeting, the representatives of the countries and international institutions welcomed the programs of the Ministry of Justice and pledged financial and technical cooperation in its implementation. They said the Ministry of Justice needed to provide them with plans and a list of requirements in the above areas.
