Completion of 138 Dossiers of Citizenship Relinquishment in First Six Months of Fiscal Year 2020 (1399)
The Ministry of Justice of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in the first six months of fiscal year 2020 has worked on more than 300 relinquishment and obtainment of citizenship dossiers and during this period, 138 relinquishing citizenship files have been completed and finalized after the presidential orders.
In these six months, 151 new relinquishment of citizenship dossiers have been dispatched by Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Ministry of Justice. In this period, progress has been made on 310 dossiers including new and of last year dossiers.
The commission on relinquishment and obtainment of citizenship affairs chaired by deputy Minister of Justice in Technical Affairs, in his two meetings, has finalized 219 relinquishment of citizenship dossiers and dispatched them to General Directorate of Administrative office of the President for the president approval; among these, 138 has been completed and finalized after presidential order and the rest is underway in that office. The main reason for relinquishment of citizenship of Afghan citizens living out of the country is that as per the rules of the concerned foreign country, the issuance of citizenship is conditional and subject to the relinquishment of citizenship of country of origin.
Memoranda of Understanding
The Ministry of Justice in the first six months of fiscal year 2020 has signed some Memoranda of Understanding with a number of domestic and foreign institutions.
These memoranda of understanding have been signed between Ministry of Justice, the Education and Research for Peace Organization, the Child Rights and Interests Support Organization, Youths Social Organization, the Women for Women Organization, Canadian Organization for Children Affected by war and Afghanistan International Legal Foundation.
In addition, Memoranda of Understanding of the Ministry of Justice with Checchi and Hajir Organizations are underway and may be concluded in the upcoming days.
